First Listen: Take Me Over by Cut Copy

Cut Copy’s 2008 LP In Ghost Colours introduced their brand of upbeat, swirling electronic tunes to the world, with their placement on this year’s Lollapalooza Festival lineup in Chicago alongside the likes of The National and Spoon emphasising the enormous strides they have made globally.

First single from their upcoming album Zonoscope, which is to be released in early 2011, is Where I’m Going. It marked a departure from the gleaming, synth-based sound that brought them fame, focusing more on the conventional interplay of guitar, bass and drums while still maintaining the trademark Cut Copy sound.

Where Im Going by Cut Copy

New single announced earlier this morning, Take Me Over, is slightly more reminiscent of their older tracks, featuring a similar reliance on sweeping choruses to the majority of songs on In Ghost Colours. Having said that, however, it does still demonstrate that Cut Copy are looking for a more minimalistic sound, and have plenty more songs in their arsenal with which they can take the world by storm.
