Hear This Band Today: WIM

Having attended Laneway Festival yesterday, which featured WIM playing their first set since signing with wunder-label Modular less than a week ago, you’d suppose that I’m making this post having discovered them yesterday and connecting with their live performance. That would make sense, but it would be wrong. Tardiness prevented me from seeing the Triple J Unearthed Laneway Competition winners, so I checked them out today as I let my bones recover from a hectic festival. Now I’m thinking I definitely should have made more effort to arrive on time yesterday, because this is one band with definite talent.

Track Colossus is a bit of a slow-burner, slightly reminiscent of The National’s tendency to never really ascend to an emphatic build despite hinting at the possibility. It’s a real difficult one to pin down in terms of genre, but on their Facebook page they suggest ‘glam folk,’ which really just shows they watch The Mighty Boosh. But despite being unable to classify it, I can’t stop listening to it.

This is a band you’ll be sure to hear of again in the future. Get on it.

Colossus can be downloaded for free at their Soundcloud page.
