Australia’s always been good at churning out talented female singers. Lasses like Sarah Blasko, Lisa Mitchell, Sia Furler and Julia Stone are a mainstay in the Aussie musical landscape, and on the evidence of Queensland’s 19 year-old Emma Louise, there’s another songstress who’s about to join the pack.
With a powerful yet slightly-restrained voice that always seems like it’s about to swell up and release a barrage of melodious intensity, Emma Louise is very much reminiscent of The Jezabels‘ Hayley Mary, given the brooding weight of the vocals.
Track Jungle is her only release so far, and it’s an absolute belter. She just released an EP, which can be bought here, and she’ll also support Boy And Bear on their upcoming tour.
Cheers to my young protegé, Todd Waugh, for my introduction to this artist.
