First Listen: Mumford & Sons cover England by The National

I really enjoyed this, which is surprising considering that I would’ve thought that anyone covering The National wouldn’t be able to do it justice – do to Matt Berninger’s unique vocal style – yet somehow Mumford manage to make it sound like one of their own. My Mumford-adoring sisters will be ever so ecstatic.

Check it out here.

One Response to First Listen: Mumford & Sons cover England by The National

wow they’ve already done a MTV Unplugged performance! the rise and rise of this band never ceases to amaze me. less than 2yrs ago they were basically the “little lion man” guys, 18 months ago they were doing venues like the Oxford Art and now they’re superstars in the States. wow!

i’m not at all impressed by this cover. i guess some of that has to do with me loving The National and not thinking much of M&S. but Marcus’s voice just lacks that piercing quality that Matt’s possesses. i admire them for doing their own take on it. but this is a song that usually makes me want to go hide in a corner somewhere and whimper. this cover puts me in a nice knee slapping mood.
