A Farrago of Musical News and Releases

During my time soaking up the Summer sun on holiday, there’s been some significant releases of both music and news, namely album release details.

The Middle East: Album Release Date

The wait is almost over. In an intimate live show last week that I was fortunate enough to witness, it was announced that their eagerly-awaited debut LP would be out in about 6 weeks. So, I think that puts the Middle East album release date at early March.

Foster the People: New Song

Foster the People, that band responsible for what was probably the 5th best song of last year, released a self-titled EP a week ago. Before that, however, they released another ridiculously-catchy song for free download.

The Strokes: Album News

The album will be titled Angles, and will be released on March 22. The first single is likely to be Undercover of Darkness.

Okkervil River: New Album, Song, and First Single Release Date

During a performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Okkervil River announced their new album, entitled I Am Very Far, due to be released on May 10. They performed a new song, Wake And Be Fine, and announced that the first single will be called Mermaids and will be out on February 8.

The Antlers: Album News

An interview on Pitchfork revealed that The Antlers’ new album will be ‘electro-inspired,’ an interesting change of direction for a band responsible for one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. They also revealed on Facebook yesterday that they have finished the album.

Red Hot Chili Peppers: Album News

Drummer Chad Smith announced that the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ first attempt at an album since Josh Klinghoffer replaced guitarist John Frusciante will be out in June.

Iron & Wine: Album Stream

The new album, Kiss Each Other Clean, is released in a few days, and for the moment can be streamed here for free.
